Not just practice. Not just lessons. A performance-based journey into musical confidence, clarity, and self-expression — supported by expert coaching, flexible feedback, and a community that inspires progress.
Most music students practice alone… then freeze up when it’s time to perform. Others plateau because they don’t get enough motivation, or they never hear what progress actually sounds like. This weekly Masterclass solves that — and more.
Grow faster through real-time performance
Learn through watching others being coached
Receive targeted, expert feedback
Stay accountable with a clear structure
And finally feel like a musician — not just a student.

No. You’ll be part of a rotating schedule — most students perform every 2–3 weeks. When you’re not performing, you’re learning just as much from observing and applying shared feedback. However, that does not mean the masterclass won't involve you practicing a particular technique or rhythm during the masterclass with your mic off. Each masterclass will start with a sound and technique drill for everyone to try.
That’s completely normal — and this is the perfect place to build that skill gently and supportively. Most students end up loving it once they realize how encouraging the space is.
Absolutely. All materials are aligned with AMEB Grades Preliminary to 4, and you’ll receive guidance on both technical and expressive performance elements.
Yes, but this is by invitation only and generally for students at a level AMEB grade 5 or equivalent and higher.
Yes, during the school holidays, private 1 on 1 lessons will be available to anyone who wants them regardless of whether you are a masterclass participant or already take 1 on 1 lessons. Online and in person lessons available.
Yes! You are most welcome to, unless you have not met the minimum requirements of an Australian Music Examination level of preliminary (usually 6 months of private lessons at least), and you're not well above a standard of AMEB grade 4.
You’re still very welcome to register for the masterclass. You’ll receive full access to 1:1 e support, just like everyone else.
You’ll also be assigned performance dates with the expectation that you submit your video before that deadline. Your performance will still be showcased to the group and receive feedback — giving you the same level of accountability, motivation, and visibility as if you were attending live.
In fact, knowing your performance will be viewed by others often inspires students to rise to the occasion and submit their best work.
You’ll receive direct feedback on your video, along with the option to submit as many additional Loom videos or audios as you'd like throughout the 9-week season.
And don’t forget — you’ll also have access to the digital practice library, designed to accelerate your progress, especially with rhythm and tricky passages.
Yes! You don't have to be playing AMEB music to join the masterclass. However, AMEB does provide a solid route and step by step plan to elevate your skills. It also helps you know where your skill is roughly sitting. That said-if you can play a full octave scale of F major, G major or C major, then you'd be able to start on AMEB Preliminary level.
No problem. You are still welcome to send recordings any time of your playing. But obviously, it is best for your education to attend every class if you can.
Yes! kids and adults have seperate masterclasses to cater for different approaches and goals in learning.
If you have already received a minimum of 6 months of 1 on 1 flute lessons from Liz or a previous teacher, then yes! It is for you.
Best to send Liz a video recording of your playing so this can be determined. If you are an existing student, just reach out to Liz and ask.
Each week may feature a demonstration of a performance of a famous flute player. Discussion will be generated around their performance, as listening is a very important part of becoming a good player. Then, all class participants will play through technique, rhythm and sound drills. This will be done with mics off, but music will be shown on the screen so everyone is reading from the same page. Levels of experience will be taken into consideration here. Then we will move onto those rostered on to perform for the week.
In a nutshell, sorry but no. Liz is completely restructuring how her flute lessons are delivered. She understands that this format may not be for everyone, and if you feel the need to find a new flute teacher, there are no hard feelings at all. This format is being adopted globally by many instrumental teachers, because learning in a group has its own motivational qualities, energy and benefits. It also ensures the ones who are serious about their learning as well as committed will be the ones who benefit the most. If you're sitting on the fence, feel free to try this for one season of learning (9 weeks) to see how you like it.
Absolutely — several students in the masterclass will be preparing for exams. The format is highly supportive: you (or your child) can submit unlimited 1:1 Loom videos between sessions for personalised feedback. You’ll never feel like you’re practicing in isolation.
Playing in the live masterclass becomes part of your exam preparation. Rather than building toward one high-pressure performance, you’ll have multiple mini-performances along the way — with real-time feedback. This builds confidence, reduces performance anxiety, and sharpens both technical and expressive skills in a supportive group setting.
The group dynamic adds even more value: students stay motivated, learn from each other, and feel more connected to their instrument by seeing what others are working on.
That said, success depends on self-motivation. The tools and support are there — but they only work if you (or your child) use them. This structure often reveals who’s genuinely committed — because musical progress is always self-driven, whether you’re in private lessons or a masterclass.
At a certain point — usually around six months in — a teacher’s role shifts. It’s not about telling you what the notes are or making up for lack of practice. If that’s your approach, you’re not getting the true value from any form of tuition.
This masterclass is ideal for those working up to around Grade 4.
And remember — exam results are just one piece of the puzzle. What really shapes a musician is consistent performance experience, the ability to express under pressure, and learning how to be seen and heard. That’s what this masterclass offers — and for motivated students, it can be more impactful than weekly 1:1 lessons at this stage of development.
